    1. Jim Rugg is an Eisner and Ignatz Award winning cartoonist based in Pittsburgh His books include STREET ANGEL, The PLAIN Janes, The Guild, Afrodisiac, and Notebook Drawings Awards and recognition from the Society of Illustrators, AIGA, Communication Arts, Print magazine, American Illustration, SPX, and Creative Quarterly adorn his mantle. His studio is pencils, paper, ballpoint pens, ink, Photoshop, cats, and comics.

    2. I won this book in a drawing.A girl who is the toughest kid in school, and saves the world as a hobby has a number of challenges in her personal life as well. Sort of a parody. A kids' book that really isn't for kids.

    3. Even though I have the first 3 volumes of this, I somehow managed to managed to read the 2nd one first I'll be mulling over my thoughts and saving them until I can talk about it as a complete unit, but this was quick and interesting and a little weird, and I think would be a big hit with a lot of kids. More thoughts to come.

    4. As the winner of a giveaway (woohoo), I received a copy of Street Angel: After School Kung Fu Special free from the publisher in return for my honest opinion. Here goes.In all honesty, I had never heard of Street Angel before this giveaway. I entered on a whim because I liked the cover art and all of the illustrations a quick google image search brought up, plus I was amused by the premise. Turns out it was a fortuitous whim, for I loved Jim Rugg's art and now I'm on mission to track down more [...]

    5. Jesse "Street Angel" Sanchez is quite possibly the toughest teenager you'll ever meet. No one at her high school is dumb enough to pick a fight with heruntil now. Jesse finds a note on her locker demanding an after-school brawl and vows to end the person who touched her locker. Her best friend, Bell, is more concerned with whether or not Jesse will go to the school dance this coming weekend. Bell's parents won't let her go unless Jesse goes too. It's a Sadie Hawkins dance, so it's really up to J [...]

    6. Street Angel: After School Kung Fu Special was refreshing, since it's less than 50 pages long and quite coherent too. The story in itself is even shorter and the comic book is filled with added info, sketches and whatnot and it still works. It took me some time to get that this is a continuation, but it's quite evident how scattered the beginning feels due to it. In this short comic our street angel Jesse ends up dueling this new kid, a ninja-type fighter guy, who wants to have name to himself f [...]

    7. Street Angel is the story of the continuing adventures of Jesse Sanchez, princess of poverty. Although, this is not the first story about Jesse, there really are no prerequisites to picking up and enjoying this book. The story is self-contained and gives you everything you need to know to become fully invested in the characters and the story. To those unfamiliar with the character, Jesse Sanchez is a skateboard riding, Kung-fu master, who also happens to be homeless and failing the 7th grade. Whe [...]

    8. I won a copy of this book.I was very excited to get a copy of this book. When I unwrapped it, the smell took me back to school. It was like getting a new textbook. The inside cover was really cool because it was decorated like a book you'd find in your school's library: decorated with graffiti. Very nice touch, I might add. Story is about a girl named Jesse, who is your typical misfit teen (late for school, skipping classes, sleeping during class) and fighter extraordinaire. Story follows her tr [...]

    9. Well, it had to happen eventually. This is Book #2, and I read it first. (Apparently my library doesn't even carry the first book in the series.) The artwork is good, and the story is ok -- there just doesn't feel like a lot of substance. Honestly, I thought the most interesting part of the book was at the end, when they talked about making comics (their version of a "how to"). Summary: quick read, kinda fun and enjoyable to look at. 2.8*

    10. Comic about ninja high school girl – quite goodThis comic is about a girl challenged at her school because of her reputation as a fighter and the consequences of the fight.Quite good although not particularly original in places, this comic is worth a look and is quite clearly illustrated.

    11. Dunno why this was bought for our adult collection, it is squarely a teen story, although I am a big fan of Rugg's art. The fight sequence was particularly well done, nice pacing with full spread layouts, great use of color. So short tho!

    12. I almost want to give this one an extra 1/2 star just because of the fun & nostalgic illustrations done in ballpoint pen and pencil. Though overall the story was really short & shallow

    13. Good reads win review. Ok book but I loved how they make it look like a real textbook from school. Super cool.

    14. I like this a lot, but it's so short & I feel like I'm missing most of the backstory. Super fun little story though & the end pages are Amazing!
